Success for all deaf children

After hundreds of NDCS campaigners got involved, a new equality duty on auxiliary aids has been given the go-ahead. The new duty will help make sure deaf children get the support and equipment they need in school.

From September 2012, schools in England and Wales will be required to provide auxiliary aids for disabled pupils as “reasonable adjustments” under the Equality Act. Examples of auxiliary aids include FM systems and communication support workers.

The change in law will particularly benefit deaf children who do not have statements of special educational needs in England and Wales
