Care and Support

All of our charities provide much needed care and support to children, young people and their families.

Many families find themselves 'in at the deep end' following a diagnosis, and turn to a specialist charity for information and advice.  They are able to offer practical solutions to everyday problems, as well as enabling families to get together at organised events where they can share experiences and support one another.

Find out how Louie, Matthew, Imran, Ella and their families have been supported by the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) and how Family Officers like Alison Marrs guide families through the minefield of information.

At Acorns Children's Hospice, physiotherapy is a vital treatment to help ease the discomfort of a child's medical condition.  Physiotherapist Kevin loves his job and is able to help many children like brothers James and William, who have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Acorns is there to help families at the most stressful and traumatic times of their life, often when their child is very seriously ill and requires many and complex treatments.  They have been able to support Michael's family and help them to cope with his Battens Disease.

Ataxia is a degenerative brain disease which can start in childhood, causing problems with movement, balance and speech and it can progress rapidly, leaving a child needing to use a wheelchair to get around.  Ataxia UK supports families, often where more than one family member has Ataxia - see how they've helped Joanna, Lauren and Jade.
