Acorns Children's Hospice

Mother and sonAcorns cares for children who have life limiting or life threatening illnesses and their families living in the West Midlands. Nursing care and support is offered at three Acorns Children's Hospice’s these are: Acorns in Birmingham (located in Selly Oak), Acorns in the Black Country (located in Walsall) and Acorns for the Three Counties (located in Worcester), and also through a community team. Acorns’ services are available 24-hours a day, every day of the year and are completely free of charge to families. Acorns is currently caring for 600 children who have life limiting or life threatening illnesses and their families, but knows of many more who could be benefitting. Acorns relies on fundraising and donations for the majority of its income.

Acorns services are provided free of charge to the children and families who need it, and the demand for services continues to grow across the West Midlands, East Shropshire, Warwickshire, South Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.

Children living with a life limiting or life threatening illness are not expected to reach adulthood, and palliative care is appropriate since a cure is not possible.

Acorns provide short breaks, emergency and end-of-life care, and bereavement support for as long as it is required.

The funds raised by Childlife supporters help to make a difference to the lives of life limited children and their families by giving them the specialist care they deserve. Dawn Pawlett, Head of Regional Fundraising, Acorns Children's Hospice
